Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or pickup from your hotel, meet your professional safari guide for a warm welcome. Enjoy a guided city tour of Kigali, one of Africa’s cleanest and safest cities. Depending on your arrival time, visit: * Kigali Genocide Memorial * Kimironko Local Market * Kigali Convention Centre (photo stop) * Local craft shops for souvenirs After lunch, depart Kigali for the Uganda border via Cyanika or Katuna. Complete immigration formalities before continuing through the beautiful rolling hills of southwestern Uganda to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. After an early breakfast, transfer to the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters for registration and a briefing by experienced ranger guides. Enter the dense rainforest in search of one of Bwindi’s habituated mountain gorilla families. Trekking may take between 2 and 8 hours depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, enjoy one magical hour observing these incredible primates in their natural habitat as they feed, groom, and interact. After the trek, receive your official Gorilla Trekking Certificate before returning to the lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon, you may choose to relax at the lodge or enjoy an optional Batwa cultural experience to learn about the indigenous forest people. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. After breakfast, depart Bwindi for the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa.” Surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with 29 scenic islands, it is one of Uganda’s most picturesque destinations. After checking into your lodge, enjoy lunch followed by a guided canoe or boat ride across the lake. Learn about the history of the islands, admire the spectacular scenery, and spot a variety of bird species. Spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing by the lakeshore. Depending on your departure schedule, stop for lunch or souvenir shopping before your transfer to Kigali International Airport or your hotel, bringing your safari to a memorable conclusion.
